Mulheres camponesas na Guerrilha do Araguaia

Abstract

More than four periods have passed since the outbreak in 1972 of the Araguaia Revolutionary. This movement of armed resistance occurred on the tiers of the Araguaia River, between the states of Pará, Maranhão and Goiás, now Tocantins, is still present in the collective memory of the people living in the region, especially the relatives of the dead and missing Revolutionary. The fight involved the militants of the PC of the B and the peasants in the fight against the military regime inspired by the ideal of a popular and revolutionary government. However, the movement was repressed by the Army through military jungle combat campaigns to capture and exterminate the militants and peasants involved in the armed struggle. The violence practiced by the Armed Forces still echoes in the memory of the peasants in the Araguaia region. The present work purposes to explore the memory of the peasant women about the Revolutionary and their perception about the conflict. Women had their daily lives changed and suffered from the violence practiced by the military. Our study aimed to analyze the memories of these people and, from them, to highlight other interpretations about the Araguaia Revolutionary.
