| metadata.dc.description.resumo: | O artigo organiza um estudo sobre a influência das ideias do filósofo francês Jean-Marie Guyau (1854-1888) no pensamento crítico do escritor Lima Barreto (1881-1922). Importante cronista do início do século XX, Barreto nutria grande admiração por tal pensador, e revelou em seus textos a influência da obra L’art au point de vue sociologique [A arte do ponto de vista sociológico], de Guyau, em suas considerações sobre a função da arte na sociedade. Crítico do Simbolismo e do Parnasianismo, Barreto, de certo modo, parece ter aprendido com Guyau certa perspectiva conservadora quanto à literatura que o fazia primar por uma inquestionável superioridade da dimensão da Ética em relação à Estética. Nessa perspectiva, a partir da análise da relação entre o pensamento de Guyau e o de Barreto sobre o fenômeno artístico, cumpre observar a consequente ojeriza do escritor brasileiro pelos pressupostos estéticos do Modernismo de 1922. |
| Abstract: | The article organizes a study on the influence of the ideas of the French philosopher Jean-Marie Guyau (1854-1888) on the critical thinking of the writer Lima Barreto (1881-1922). An important chronicler of the early 20th Century, Barreto had great admiration for such a thinker, and revealed in his writings the influence of Guyau's L'art au point de vue sociologique [Art from a sociological point of view] on his way to think the function of art in society. Detractor of Symbolism and Parnassianism, Barreto, in a certain way seems to have learned from Guyau a certain conservative perspective on the literature that made him stand out for an unquestionable superiority of the dimension of Ethics in relation to Aesthetics. From this perspective, taking into account the relationship be-tween Guyau's and Barreto's thoughts on the artistic phenomenon, the objective of this article is also to analyze Lima Barreto's consequent odiousness for the aesthetic assump-tions of Brazilian Modernism. |
